Makarov Serial Number Lookup
To find the Year of Manufacture of your Bulgarian 'Circle 10' Military Makarov, look at the serial number (S/N), normally found on the left side of the frame, above the grip. The first two letters are the Production series, the next two digits are the Year code, see list below. Caliber: 9x18mm Makarov 171mm [6.7'] long, 100mm [3.9'] barrel 7-rd magazine Unloaded weight: 540g, loaded: 600g Upon the success of the light weight R-61 Police Pistol the Hungarian People's Army requested a new aluminum alloy framed 9x18mm Makarov chambered pistol to replace their 48.M (Tokarev TT-33) Army Pistols. They also asked for and received a 7-round magazine and a longer, 100mm barrel.

I happened to purchase a Russian commercial Makarov 380acp today and I am interested in the original question and have a couple more. I picked it up for $199 OTD (1 mag no box or papers) and really did not know much about Makarovs till this past week. From my research I see a lot of comments that the commercial russians are not as sought after because of the adjustable sights and they tend to have a poorer fit and finish. Is that the only reason. Does accuracy and function seem to be just as good with these as the others? (Mike I know you said they function good but do they tend to functions as good as the others) My finish was actually very good. I would say 90-95% and a very good blue on it.

It is a B West imported IJ-70 with a serial number of B AC 8737. Where could I find info on when this was made and when it was imported?
The extractor and some of the internals seem to be a rust like 'purple' color. Doesn't really seem to be rust. Is this normal? What causes this?
The trigger can be pulled SLIGHTLY when it is on safe. the hammer moves along with it. It is not close to fully engaging, but it does move the hammer a little with the saftey up. Is this normal?
